The situation
In the entrance area of one of Berlin's largest event arenas, 17 smoke alarms were due for scheduled replacement. The foyer is a tall glass atrium; some of the alarms sit above glazing. There is no load-bearing set-up area for an aerial work platform, and scaffolding would have meant a week of erection for a day of work.
Solution
Access on rope, rigged from above, to TRBS 2121 Part 3. There is a glass roof below the work position, so we worked with tool tethering.
How it was done
Every detector carries its own ID, and the replacement followed the list: read the ID, swap the unit, test the function, record it.
Result
All 17 alarms replaced and tested in a single working day, without a platform and without scaffold. The foyer stayed open; only the area beneath each work point was cordoned off. Handed over with photo documentation and a report, including which ID belongs to which alarm. At the same location, in the same year, we also carried out tiling in the commercial kitchen, drywall and net installations.
