The situation
A catering concession in a large event venue in Berlin: the kitchen and counter area needed new, hygienic surfaces, around 60 m² of wall, column and counter. The challenge was less the tile than the calendar: events carried on, work was only possible around the event dates, with security passes, fixed delivery windows and no deliveries on event days.
Solution
Kitchen walls in 10×20 bevelled metro tile, matt black, in a horizontal half bond with white grout and a continuous accent line at eye level. Where the existing surface was sound, we laid tile over tile after checking; the columns and counter front, by contrast, were done from scratch. Full strip-out, substrate filled and primed, then 30×60 porcelain stoneware in anthracite with stainless steel profiles on every external edge. In the washing and splash zones: bonded waterproofing to DIN 18534, flexible adhesive, hygiene-resistant grout and silicone for commercial kitchens.
How it was done
Four people working in step, coordinated by us. Deliveries via the service lift in fixed time slots, battery tools only on event days. The main work ran in barely a week at the start of July, with the remaining items fitted around the event calendar.
Mid-project came a request for an additional drywall wall for another piece of kitchen equipment. The variation ran at the same pace: metal stud framing, boarding suitable for wet areas, tiled straight afterwards, ordered as a documented variation.
Result
Impact-resistant edges, waterproofed wet areas and even grout lines. Handed over with an acceptance record and photo documentation, while the venue continued operating. Drywall work and net installations were also carried out at the same site that year.
