Newly laid laminate floor in a Berlin office with a curved window front

Laminate flooring in an office in Berlin

Project, 6 August 2026

The situation

A 33 m² office on the top floor of a Berlin commercial building was to get a new floor. The room has two quirks that set a laminate floor apart from a standard job: a curved window front running the full width of the room, and five floor boxes with power and network connections spread across the area. Add the roof slopes on two sides. The old covering was worn, and every connection had to stay in service.

Solution

Laminate to commercial standard, abrasion class AC5, the class for heavily used commercial areas. Build-up: check and level the substrate, vapour barrier with impact sound insulation, then the covering laid floating, an expansion gap all round, finished with skirting.

For the five floor boxes: made-to-fit inserts instead of trunking. The covering is cut around the box frames, the frames sit flush in the surface again and open normally.

How it was done

First the old covering out, the substrate checked and the height of the floor boxes measured, which decides how thick the insulation may be so the frames end up flush. Then vapour barrier, insulation, and laying in the direction of the window front so the joints run with the light rather than against it.

The cutting was the real work: the curved window front marked out and trimmed in short segments, the roof slopes and the door frame mitred in, plus the five floor box cut-outs. Finally skirtings, a threshold profile to the corridor and a detailed clean.

Result

One continuous surface with no visible makeshift fixes: the floor boxes sit flush and stay fully usable, the curve is traced cleanly as an edge, and the slopes close without gaps. Handover with a written record and photo documentation. A spare box from the same batch stays with the client. And if a wall needs moving along with the new floor, the same team does that too, see drywall.
