THE FOUNDER

STANLEY MCKAY

PORTSOY, SCOTLAND

THE FIRST STONE HOUSE

I only spent the first six years of my life in this house, but the incredible stonework my father created has always left a huge impression on me. This house, with its legendary triangular lintel is one of my great inspirations.

ALENTEJO, PORTUGAL

THE SECOND STONE HOUSE

My family moved to Portugal and rebuilt a ruin when I was 6 in the purest countryside. Naturally built by my father with stone and clay from the land, with the help of his three little labourers of course — my two siblings and I.

ROPE ACCESS

DIVINE REACH

I've been climbing all my life – from trees and cliffs as a kid to city walls and rooftops in my teens. Rope access is just how I've turned madness into craft.

That's why I built Mantodeus. The name comes from the praying mantis – a creature of precision.

Rope access, done consciously, feels spiritual. It's about moving in harmony with ropes, keeping calm under pressure, and solving problems where others can't reach.

IRATA L2 certified, with L3 aimed by the end of this year (2026).

STONE HERITAGE

STONE TO THE BONE

With over 30 years of incredible stone art and random stone walling, it was my dad who taught me stone. We have done many a mad project together, from dry stone dykes and stone bridges to building the beautiful natural stone and clay house that we grew up in in Portugal.

My father building walls long before I was born.
